are our younger generation being overprotected/spoilt till a stage where they are losing the hardworking trait that our pioneer generation has?
i'm beginning to notice this trend in the younger generation. they are over reliance on what the parents provide. perhaps its the parents fault ultimately. from young the children have been excessly protected till a stage where they are beginning to lose some of the natural ability of survival. some examples at home:
1. children dun wash their cups/plates/utensils after use.
- parents/maids help them wash citing the excuse that they may break the cups.
2. dunno how to tie shoe laces
- parents either help their children tie every morning or simply they buy those school shoes that dun have laces! ask their children to learn? nah...
3. dun carry their own bags.
- parents say its too heavy for their precious. anyway got maid what so ask maid carry lah!
the list goes on...
simply observe your surroundings and u understand what i mean. observe the lifestyle of the children now and compare with what u have in the past. u got maid to help u with all that (unless u are that rich to get one in the past)? so what will u do? u learn rite? parents in the past give us the space and chance to learn. even if we make mistakes we at most get a scolding or a few canes but at the end of the day we learn something new and we do them well! now? children are overly spoilt that other than studying and studying they can't seems to do any other things.
oh yah.. comes to studies.. have u noticed that the quality of the students have deteriorated over the years? lets face it lah... dun discuss about jc.. to make it to poly how many points the max u can get 10 years ago? i still remember clearly to get to the most unfavourable course at that time (i think is marine) is about 28-29 for L1R4 and other engineering is about 25. now? i did not check out the latest cut off but i heard its 30++?? so its about a C6 in all the 5 subjects!! WTF! like that also can? with that kind of standard how do we expect our future workforce to be of a high standard? (disclaimer: i'm not against poly students but is citing a general trend)
another thing i notice is that younger generation hope for immediate success. no no.. i dun mean that u should not pursue success. its everyone's wish to attain success and to reach it as fast as possible but i'm a strong believer of the fact that there is no shortcut in the road to success, unless ur fairygodmother (FGM) is realli that kind to help u all the way, and not everyone's FGM is that kind (including mine). want to earn big bucks? want to drive big car? want to hold managerial position? want all that within a short time? well... u can... provided ur daddy is bloody rich..
