lets remain silence for a minute for the korean who was killed by the terrorists.

its sad to see another hostage being heheaded by the terrorists. not every hostage is as lucky as those few japanese who managed to escape the cruel fate of being beheaded. in my opinion, and its not totally the government's fault that the hostage cannot be saved. its all about national pride. imagine that a government backed out due to a threathen by the terrorists: the terrorists will think that its effective and will carry on to make more of such threats to other countries. isn't that worst? the people will also feel that the government is weak and cannot withstand such a little threat. that will give those who wana overthrow the government a very good signal to "go ahead because we (the government) are weak." yes, i agree that its a human life that is of concern but the effects of compromising is worst than the death of the hostage. the government may be even grateful to the terrorists that they finally have a valid excuse to send in troops so as to "let the terrorists pay back for the lost of the citizen", despite the disapproval of the people in the firt place. now, the people, with a sense of hatred for the terrorists, may even give full support for the government. thats what the government wished for.

anyway, through all these rampant terrorists acts since year 2000, i really hope that singaporeans are not taking national security lightly as before. we are really lucky that we are being spared before but we do not know about the future. maybe as i'm writing my blog now someone out there is plotting something evil in singapore. who knows?

for those males who need to serve NS, i agree that NS is a waste of time but its not totally true that we did not learn or gain anything from it. i agree the amount of time wasted in waiting if used properly may jolly well cut short the service to a year. in addition, some things done in there are really unreasonable. however, i made many friends and buddies in there who we went thru thick and thin together and even through the university together. i trained up my body during that 2.5 years. all these may not be possible without NS. also as guys we earn our citizenship thru NS. no NS = no citizenship. perhaps the younger males should look at it in another viewpoint. dun be blinded by selfish nature inherited all these years. instead look at a bigger picture, for the country, for your family, and lastly for yourself.

time is not a waste only if u think that its not a waste.
