whenever i choose to walk to the MRT station instead of taking the bus, i'll certainly pass by a day centre for the mentally handicapped located at the ground floor of a particular block of flats. the windows are wide open, with voices coming out of the rooms. i guess the management there is trying to foster a closer relationship of these mentally handicapped with the public by opening the windows wide and allow the public to peep into the rooms to see what they are doing. probably its a good way to tell the public that the mentally handicapped are not that "weird" or "scary" yah?
i dunno why but whenever i walk pass i dun like to peep into the rooms and see what they are doing. i feel sad for them. seriously its not their choice to be in such a state. i believe that they do hope that they can have the mentality of "normal" people, live normally, work normally. however they have been shortchanged. in the eyes of SOME of the "normal" people, they are simply nuisance, garbage, or simply a burden to the society. however, THESE "normal" people failed to realise that these mentally handicapped does not have a choice. if they have a choice u think they want to be like tat? if given a choice, u think they want to be labelled as idiots, retarded or mad people? you think they like to receive the awkward glances of "normal" people, as thou they have committed a crime?
probably its a blessing in disguise for them. this world is too evil. maybe in their mind this world continues to be a beautiful one...
