wat luck! i suffered a pay cut from my tuition.
for those who don't know i'll inform you all now that i'm a part time group tuition teacher. my fees are pegged to the number of students, so in another words i'll get my max pay if i have 6 or more students. but from this month onwards, 3 of my brighter students are leaving me as they say they are very occupied with ECA and school work. i know its a nice excuse. in the past when i only have 2 of them as my students i can teach them at a very fast pace as they know their fundamentals and what i need to do is to give them more knowledge. but now my class is a mixed of fast and slow learners. i've to take care of those slower ones so i go rather slowly. maybe that is the reason they quit. =( what worst is that since now i only got 4 students, i only get a fraction of the fees! damn! i suffer a pay cut of 22%! last year same thing happened to me. i only got 2 students so my fees is realli very little. however last year i got 2 classes and its like one after another so i still don't mind as i can save on my transport time and cost and i can use the fees of one class to cover for the other. but now i only got one class...
i guess this is the minimum i'll go for. if anyone is to quit i'll probably quit teaching there, coz by then i'll be getting less than half of what i can get if i secure a private tuition for a sec 3 or 4 student. furthermore i have no flexibility in terms of time as the classroom is allocated that time for me. i understand that they pegged the fees to the number of students so that they do not make a loss. however i feel that its rather unfair to the teacher as we still need to put in the same effort but with less pay now. imagine if i only have 2 students and the money i get after minus transport and travelling is probably $5/hr! this is not right u know? yah i'm a realistic person. i love to teach, but i expect a reasonable amount of returns too for my work. so getting a private tuition is what i'll do if ONE more is to quit. i wana see who is willing to take over my position for that amount of fees. oh yah if you are thinking maybe students will increase after the midterm test? my 2 years of experience there tells me that the number of students will decline as time goes by... does that answer your question?
