was chatting with one of my colleagues just now about our work, our bosses, our career.. she did gave me quite abit of advice on how and where i should carry on from where i'm now and i do agree with what she says. true lor, in an engineering firm, technical knowledge is critical no matter what is your position: an application engineer, sales engineer or project engineer. thats our ricebowl.. she suggested that i work hard to gain more technical knowledge to differentiate myself from my counterparts. i did thought of that some time back and i'm working my way to know more..
but then we also agreed that money is an important factor. we dun work for nothing, we work for money, hard cold cash. its that practical and simple. we have our needs to satisfy, our wants to fulfill, and most of them can be achieved through money. job opportunites? learning opportunites? hahhaa... all are human resource bullshits to make you work for lower pay..
frankly speaking i'm so confused now only because i feel that i'm underpaid. nothing else. everything is ok except the pay. what we are worth depends on our pay, and what we earn depends on how we go about achieving it. the best way is to job hop.. really.. now i understand why people like to job hop coz there is really no loyalty to talk about in this corporate world.. imagine every job hop you get 10~30% increment while every year of work in the company earns you 3~7%? who values you more? you decide.
well, i think i better plan for the short and mid-term before i make any career move. ok i need to achieve something before i leave.. and perhaps short-term is my bonus at the end of the year, and mid-term is to be promoted by next year. maybe i should wait till next year then i decide if i should go or not..
but then if there is any available and attractive opportunity now, i'll not hestitate to move too =)
