its a speaker!!

i found this interesting looking thing one day at the jurong east library. when i was walking really close to it, i heard some noise and notice this piece of thing. pretty cool huh? when u sit below the speaker, almost no one can hear what is coming out from it except you! is this called directing sound? heard that some ntu students managed to discover something like tat and they are pending for patents, but seems like they are rather slow as compared to others..
