if you have been following the news you should be aware of the latest talking point in singapore, where the nan chiau high principal mr ng resigned after someone reported that he hit a female student with a soft cover book during reprimanding session.

all along i feel that parents nowadays pamper their children too much. the parents provide their children with excessive pocket money (yeah.. i realli mean EXCESSIVE), hire a maid to be the childrens' slave, complain and complain now and then to the teachers when the children are being scolded or need to do some "corrective work order" aka CWO. its because of these type of over protective parents that we singapore are breeding brats who are close to the definition of scums. no.. i'm not excessively harsh here. look at their school results, behaviour, attitude towards their parents and teachers, look at them.. dun u think the new generation-Y are a hell worst than the generation-X? ok.. maybe i should mention that its "a handful" of them are like that.. not all...

ok back to the parents. nowadays because of both parents working, they seems to think that bringing up the children is to be done by the maid instead of themselves. they "think" that providing the children with the material comforts will be enough, other things like moral values which are even more important will be "self-learnt" and taught in schools. i feel that what they do is no different than rearing animals in the farm: just provide them with their material needs (in this case food) will be enough. whats the point of having children? so that someone will take care of them while they are old? well... i won't be surprised if the children do what they have been taught to them directly, that is to just provide the parents with the material needs, and in this case is to send them to old folks home. scary right? but thats what they are educating their children now wat... they will get what they sow in time to come..

i'm equally surprised that people feel that corporal punishment should be "unfreezed". i really forget the last time i heard a student complain to fellow friends that they have been hit by the teacher because of something that they did wrongly. yup.. thats how long ago since coporal punishment is "abolished" because teachers are supposed to "educate + care" for the students instead of punishing them for what they did wrongly. yah.. that dun work for ALL students. only those that can "think" will learn from their mistakes. others simply need some pain to make them wake up. remember the book by the ex-president Dr Wee where he disclosed that its the cane of stroke that he was awarded in school that made him wake up and then he excel from there? i believe there are many other similar stories of successful people that were inspired from that stroke of cane...
