long time no biatch abt government policies already so i guess its time for one now..

today in ntu there is a minister forum by the DPM. from my roommie who went, he says that various issues are mentioned in the Q&A session, and one of it is the topic on the distinction between citizens and PR. i wonder why the govt only realise that there is basically little to no distinction between PR and citizens other than the ability to vote. PR enjoy almost the same subsidies in health care, education, transport, etc as citizens. can you tell me something that is not the same due to my ignorance? on top of that those males PR dun need to go thru NS like we all citizens male do and most of them only need to work for a few years before naturally becoming a citizen. they do not need NS, reservists.. so it is fair for the male citizens who are 100% made in singapore? oh yah.. in case of war, do you think those PR will pledge their loyalty to singapore? you think they will carry guns like we citizens do? will they shed their blood and even their lives for singapore just like we citizens do? haha... i dun think so. well you can say that it may be possible but put yourself in their shoes. you are a PR in another country. the country is going for a war. will you stay there and carry guns for them? or will u fled to another country?

in the forum there is an indian national who asked the PM why is it that they did not get the NSS just like the citizens do, althought they have contributed to the economy of singapore for the past 15 years here. i seriously think is a joke! hahahaha! so what rights do they think they have to get those $$$? its our country's money so of coz its for citizens! so wat the fuck do you think you are as a PR to be able to enjoy these? dun forget as a PR your university fees have been heavily subsidised for by the government of singapore, not by the government of your country of origin. so you think that 2-3k is more than the subsidy in tuition fees? well... go and pay the full amount for the tuition fees and i believe the government will gladly pay you back the NSS that you think you deserve.

i'm NOT against PR. i believe their presence is good for the overall of singapore. however, i feel that they shouldn't think that they should receive all the goodies that the govt give to the citizens.

back to basics: PR are NOT citizens so a difference should (or i should say MUST) still be presence. the sense of loyalty cannot be bought using $$$, and the need to die for your country w/o any reservation when in crisis is what differentiates between citizens and PRs..
